My PetSafe® Outdoor Dog Fountain Is Slimy
Important Information
- When using indoors, clean the fountain at least once a month.
- When using the fountain outdoors, you may need to clean more frequently.
- Multi-pet households may need to clean more frequently.
- It is recommended to clean the pump and change the filters when cleaning the fountain.
Disassemble the fountain.

Take apart the pump.

Soak all the fountain and pump parts in a solution of equal parts vinegar and warm water for up to 20 minutes.
Scrub the fountain and pump parts with soap and warm water, making sure to clean down in crevices and corners. Clean inside the pump where the impeller is inserted.
Thoroughly rinse all parts with clean water to ensure there is no soap or vinegar residue remaining.
Reassemble the pump.
Reassemble the fountain and replace the foam filter and carbon filter. Rinse the new carbon filter under cold water for 30 seconds before inserting it into the filter housing.
