How To Take Apart My PetSafe® Outdoor Dog Fountain Pump for Cleaning

Important Information

Your pump should be taken apart and cleaned each time you disassemble and clean the fountain.

If you have “hard water” you may start to see white mineral deposits on or down inside the pump. This may eventually prevent the impeller from turning properly.

Disassemble

Remove FaceplateRemove Faceplate

Remove the faceplate of the pump by inserting a fingernail or other slim object into the seam and pull straight out.

Be careful as the flow control dial will become free when the faceplate is removed and could be dropped and lost. If the dial does not become free, remove it before cleaning.

Remove StatorRemove Stator

Pull on the small tab to remove the Stator.

Remove ImpellerRemove Impeller

Remove the Impeller by pulling up from underneath the white plastic.

Note: The Impeller is held in place by a magnet. This may cause some resistance when trying to remove it.

Cleaning

Clean PumpClean Pump

Thoroughly clean inside the pump and all the pump pieces. Use a mild dish soap and warm water to clean. If there is mineral build-up, soak the parts in a 50/50 water and white vinegar solution for at least 15 minutes before scrubbing.

Our Fountain Cleaning Kit has a brush specially designed to clean inside the pump. The kit can be purchased through our website here.

Do not use bleach or any other harsh chemicals.
