My PetSafe® ScoopFree® Clumping Self-Cleaning Litter Box’s Litter Does Not Last Long or Has a Strong Odor
Start by ensuring that your litter box is clean. For more information, visit How To Clean Your ScoopFree® Clumping Self-Cleaning Litter Box.
Check litter level:
The litter box works best when the litter is between the minimum and maximum lines. If the litter falls below the minimum fill line, the litter box may not scoop correctly.
Mix the litter once a week:
Mix the liter once weekly if your cat is sick, has high urine output, doesn’t cover her waste, or always uses the same spot. Be sure to mix the litter from behind the rake and along the sides of the litter box but not the litter in the waste trap.
Avoid using lower-quality food:
Lower-quality food may contain fillers such as crude fiber, ash & by-products that could increase the use of the litter box.
Keep the litter box in low moisture areas:
If you are using crystal litter, excessive moisture in rooms like bathrooms can be absorbed into the crystals and shorten the lifespan of the tray.
Use a litter liner:
Adding a litter liner to the waste bin can help keep the litter box cleaner for longer,as well as make it easier to remove the litter.
Try a premium clumping litter:
If you are still having odor issues, try a premium clumping litter. Clay litter takes less time to absorb moisture from the waste.
Spray the rake with cooking spray:
If you see waste sticking to the rake often, remove and clean the rake. Then spray cooking spray on the rakeand let it dry before reinserting it into the litter box. Do NOT spray the rake while it is inside the unit as this can cause the litter to clump too hard and overwork the motor.
