The Battery in the PetSafe® Stay & Play® with Replaceable Battery Collar is Not Lasting

A flashing red light on the collar when the pet is not in the correction zone indicates a low battery. If the flashing red light is occurring after a new battery has been installed or you’re having to change batteries frequently, please follow the steps in this article.

Verify the battery installed is a PetSafe® Brand RFA-67 battery. If you’re using a third-party battery, replace it with a genuine PetSafe® Brand battery. They can be purchased directly on PetSafe.com, or to purchase locally, visit our Local Retailer Lookup.

Perform a battery drain. This is a hard reset. For assistance with this process visit How to Perform a Battery Drain on the PetSafe® Stay & Play Fence with Replaceable Batteries Collar.

Ensure you are powering the collar off in between uses by pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds and the red light goes out.

  • If the collar is powered on continuously, the battery will only last approximately 2 weeks.
  • You will experience shortened battery life during the training period. This is normal and to be expected as your pet will test their boundaries the most during this period.
  • When the unit is powered off in between uses, the battery will last approximately 1-2 months. If you need to replace the battery much more frequently, contact Customer Care for further assistance.
