My SmartDoor™ Connected Pet Door Does Not Unlock When My Pet Approaches It

If the SmartDoor™ is not unlocking as your pet approaches it:

Check the battery indicator light on the pet door. Is it red?

  • If yes, replace the batteries in the pet door. After replacing the batteries, test the pet door to see if it unlocks for your pet. If the pet door is still not unlocking, proceed to the next step.
  • If no, proceed to the next step.

Check the flap:

  1. Put the pet door in Standard Mode and unlock it.
  2. Push on the flap. Does it open?
    1. If yes, proceed to the next step.
    2. If no, the flap may be stuck. Clean the pet door, following the instructions in How to Clean and Maintain My SmartDoor™ Connected Pet Door.

Switch the pet door back to Smart Mode and set it to Unlocked - All Access.

If the pet door is paired to a Pet Door Key on your pet’s collar, remove the collar (with Pet Door Key) from your pet. Wiggle the Pet Door Key in front of the flap of the pet door. Does the door unlock?

  • If yes, your pet may be too low to the ground for the pet door to sense the Pet Door Key when they are wearing it. Try switching to a larger Pet Door Key. There are three sizes of key available; the larger the key, the easier it is for the pet door to detect.
  • If no, re-pair your pet’s Pet Door Key to the SmartDoor™.
  1. In the My PetSafe® app, select the SmartDoor.
  2. Tap the settings icon at the bottom right of the screen.
  3. Tap Pets.
  4. Select the pet you wish to add to the SmartDoor™.

If the pet door is paired to your cat’s implanted microchip (medium SmartDoor™ only):
