My PetSafe® Wall Entry Pet Door Flap is Getting Stuck or Not Staying Closed

Inspect the pet door for damage. Examine the interior and exterior frame and the magnetic strip in the threshold of the pet door. If damage is found, replace the pet door. The pet door can be purchased here.

Inspect the flap for damage. Ensure there are no tears or warpage, and that there is no damage to the magnetic strip on the bottom of the flap. 

To test for warpage, remove the flap and lay it on a flat surface. For detailed instructions on removing the flap, visit our article How to Replace the Flap on My PetSafe® Pet Door.

If the flap does not lay flat or damage is found, replace the flap. Replacements can be purchased from our website here.

Adjust the flap if no damage is found on the pet door or flap. If the flap is installed too low or too high, this can prevent proper closure. For more information, visit our article How to Adjust the Flap on My PetSafe® Pet Door.

If the above does not resolve the issue, remove the pet door, and inspect cut out. The original cut-out made during installation may be too small. This can place stress on the pet door frame causing it to bow inward and not allow the flap the space needed to swing freely. Depending on the material of the door, you may be able to use a file to widen the cut-out. The pet door should fit into the cutout without a lot of pressure or being forcibly inserted.
