My PetSafe Microchip® Cat Door is Blinking Red

Important Information

The microchip cat door will indicate low batteries by flashing a red light once every 10 seconds. This is normal and can be fixed by replacing the batteries with new ones. For more information, visit our article How to Replace the Batteries in My PetSafe® Microchip Cat Door.

If your cat door has a continuous quick red flash, an error has occurred, and you will need to try the following steps to resolve.

Remove the cat door from where it is installed. Then remove the batteries.

Leave the batteries out for 10 minutes, then replace the batteries with new ones. Wait 45-60 seconds for the auto-calibration to finish.

Test the cat door with your cat by placing their head inside the tunnel. If the cat door works, then the issue is the installation location and not the door itself.

If the issue continues, the cat door will need to be replaced.

Issue Caused by Installation Location

If the cat door worked after being removed from its location, you will need to check the material the cat door was installed in for metal.

NOTE: Composite doors you cannot see the metal in the door. UPVC doors generally have metal inside for stability.

Remove the batteries from the cat door again.

Reinstall the cat door without batteries in its location and wait 10 minutes.

Replace the batteries in the cat door and wait 45-60 seconds for the auto-calibration to complete.

Test the cat door with your cat. If the door works, no further steps are necessary. If the issue continues, you will need to remove the cat door and reinstall it with the installation adapter.
