How to Train Your Pet to the PetSafe® Stay & Play® Fence Phase 4: Unleashed Supervision

Training your pet to a PetSafe® Stay & Play® Fence is essential for a successful integration into yours and your pet’s lives.

At a minimum, you will need to commit to three sessions, on three different days of training for 10-15 minutes each session for each phase. You will also need to have toys and treats available for praise at each session.

If your pet shows signs of stress, increase the amount of play time in the pet area. Signs of stress can include ears tucked, tail down, cowering, pulling on the leash or stiffening.

Walk around the yard with your pet off-leash to establish comfort.

If your pet leaves the boundary area, remove the collar, and walk the pet back into the pet area.

Proceed to How to Train Your Pet to the PetSafe® Stay &Play® Fence Phase 5: Pet Monitoring when your pet does not attempt to leave the pet area at all.

  • Spend at least five minutes of play time within 10 feet of the boundary flags at the end of each training session.
  • Remove the collar from the pet after each training session.
