How to Train Your Pet to the PetSafe® Stay & Play® Fence Phase 3: Distractions
Training your pet to a PetSafe® Stay & Play Fence is essential for a successful integration into yours and your pet’s lives.
At a minimum, you will need to commit to three sessions, on three different days of training for 10-15 minutes each session for each phase. You will also need to have toys and treats available for praise at each session.
If your pet shows signs of stress, increase the amount of play time in the pet area. Signs of stress can include ears tucked, tail down, cowering, pulling on the leash or stiffening.
Attach a leash to a second, non-metallic collar placed above the training collar on your pet.
Offer a minor distraction, such as another person walking by, outside of the boundary zone. If the pet does not react or attempt to leave the boundary area, offer your pet praise.
If you notice a reaction or an attempt to leave the boundary area, allow the pet to return to the to the pet area.
Repeat the same process while gradually increasing the distraction level.

- Spend at least five minutes of play time within 10 feet of the boundary flags at the end of each training session.
- Remove the training collar after each session.
