How to Clean and Maintain My PetSafe® Pet Door

Important Information

Examine your pet door once a month to ensure it continues to function properly.

Clean the pet door using a sponge or rag with mild soap and water.

Avoid using harsh cleaners and chemicals like bleach that can degrade the vinyl flap.

Ensure the flap is sealing properly. There should be no gaps on the sides between the flap and the frame or between the magnets. Adjust the flap if necessary. For detailed instructions, visit our article How to Adjust the Flap on My PetSafe® Pet Door.

Ensure there is no debris or dirt buildup blocking the magnetic strip at the bottom of the flap or in the frame of the pet door that may prevent the flap from sealing properly. Wipe with a damp rag and clear the debris if necessary.

Inspect the flap for damage. If the flap is torn or does not seal on the sides properly due to warpage, replace the flap. For detailed instructions, visit our article How to Replace the Flap on My PetSafe® Pet Door.
