Rechargeable Battery

When checking a rechargeable collar, use the light on the collar when it is plugged in to determine why the collar will not power on.

How to charge the collar

Plug the collar in to charge.
The light turns solid red when charging.

If the light does not come on, test your collar and charging cord.

  • Try another outlet. If the light comes on, the first outlet is not working properly.
  • Try another charging cord. If the light comes on, the first charging cord is not working properly.
  • Use the same charging cord to charge another collar. If the other collar's light comes on, the first collar is not working properly.

If the light comes on, let the collar charge completely.

  • A full charge takes 2-3 hours.
  • The light turns solid green when charging is complete.

Turn the collar on.

  • The light turns green and then flashes red, indicating the static stimulation level.
  • If a light does not come on, press the button again. You will feel when the button is pressed.

If your collar now powers on, test it on the fence boundary to make sure that it is working properly.

If the collar or charging cord is not working, contact our Customer Care Team for replacement options.

Single-Use Battery

For collars that have power supplied with a single-use battery, check that the battery is a genuine PetSafe® brand battery and that the collar can read the battery.

How to Identify a Genuine PetSafe®Brand Battery

For collars using the RFA-67 and RFA-188 batteries, make sure that you are using a genuine PetSafe® brand battery. Using an alternate brand's battery can damage your collar and will void your warranty.

Look for markings printed on the batteries to confirm they are genuine.

Make Sure Your Collar Can Read the Battery

A left-over charge inside the collar may be preventing the collar from reading the battery. Follow the steps below to clear the charge, then check for power to your collar.

The average battery life is up to 1-3 months. If your battery has not been replaced in the last month, consider using a new battery. Off-brand batteries are known to have a shorter life-span.

Troubleshooting the Free to Roam Wireless Fence

Now that your collar has a new battery and is reading it correctly, test your collar on the boundary to make sure it is working properly.
