Troubleshooting Your Pawz Away® Outdoor Pet Barrier

If you are experiencing an issue with your outdoor pet barrier, choose the option that best fits what you are experiencing and follow the instructions.


System Not Working

Replace Batteries

Loosen the screws on the bottom of the base unit using a Phillips head screwdriver.

Remove the old batteries from the base unit.

Ensure that the switch in the battery compartment is on the correct setting for your system.

  • External: Wired
  • Internal: Wireless

Insert four new D-size batteries.

Screw the battery door back onto the base unit.

Collar Batteries

Use the battery key on the test light tool to turn the battery cap to the unlock position, then remove the cap.

Remove the old batteries from the battery compartment.

Lift the metal tab gently with your finger to ensure the battery will firmly touch the tab when installed.

Insert two CR 2032 batteries into the battery cap, with the positive side going into the cap.

Place the battery cap into the collar, then use the test light tool to turn it to the on position.

Test the system.

If the base unit or collar does not turn on after new batteries, contact our Customer Care Team.

Range Issues

If the issues are still occurring after placing new batteries in the base unit and collar, check this list to ensure there is not metal interfering with the radio signal.

Make Sure the Base Unit Is Not:

On metal surfaces

At least three to five feet away from large metal objects, such as heating or air conditioning units, cars, metal buildings, etc.

Submerged in water.

Exposed to extreme temperatures.

Check Range

If there is no metal interfering with the signal, follow the instructions to check the signal range.

For Wireless Systems:

Open the lid on top of the base unit to expose the display screen and range buttons.

Use the down button to set the base unit to 1 segment.

Test the system.

Use the up button to increase the range.

diagramdiagram

Test the system.

For Wired Systems:

Follow the steps below to determine if you have a wire break.

Loosen the screws holding the wire and disconnect the wires.

Cut 15 feet of new wire and remove 1/4 inch of insulation from each end of the wire.

Use pliers to bend each end at a 90 degree angle.

diagramdiagram

Place one end of the wire between the screw and plastic edge, then tighten the screw to hold in place. Repeat with the other end of the wire and the other screw. Do not let the bare wires touch each other.

Ensure that the inside switch is turned to “External” for the signal to be sent through the wire.

Reinsert the batteries.

Bend the wire carefully to fit the groove of the battery door, then screw the battery door back onto the base unit.

Press the up button to turn on the base unit. The screen will display a black line indicating that the unit is set to the lowest range.

Use the [up] button to set the range to three feet (3 segments).

Lay the wire in a circle.

⁠Test the system.

Collar Activating Inside

Base Unit Location

Use the down button to decrease the range on your base unit.

Move the base unit further away from your house if the collar is still activating indoors.

Pet Not Responding

Use the test light tool to turn it to the on position.

Hold the collar probes against the wire on the test light tool.

Position the collar under the tool and at the height of your pet.

Walk toward the barrier until the collar beeps and the test light tool flashes.

Note: If the test light tool is unavailable, walk up to the boundary until the collar begins to beep indicating activation.

Check multiple angles around the area to ensure full coverage.

Replace Batteries

Use the battery key on the test light tool to turn the battery cap to the unlock position, then remove the cap.

Remove the old batteries from the battery compartment.

If issues with activation are still occurring, contact our Customer Care Team.

If the collar activates, follow the instructions to check the fit of the collar.

Fit Strap

For proper use, the collar must be adjusted to fit your pet properly. To ensure the collar is fit correctly, turn the collar off and follow these steps:

With your dog standing, center the probes on the neck.

Check that only one finger fits between the probe and your dog’s neck.

Adjust the Strap

Fasten Buckle

Slide Buckle

Move the strap through the Slide Buckle, then pull through the Fasten Buckle.

To tightenTo tighten

To tighten
Move the strap up through the Fasten Buckle, then pull through the Slide Buckle.

Trim Strap

If the strap is too long for your pet, follow the instructions below to trim the excess. The above materials will be needed to begin.

To Begin, Follow These Steps:

Mark the strap at least 2 inches past the slide buckle.

Remove the collar from your dog and trim the strap.

diagramdiagram

Apply a flame to seal the cut edge.
