The PetSafe® FlexFeed Automatic Pet Feeder Has a Red Light or E004 Error Code

Important Information

E004 Error Code

An Error Code E004 and a red light on the front of your feeder above the LCD indicate an error in the chute. This is usually due to excess food backing up or an object stuck in the chute.

Unplug your feeder from the wall outlet.

Remove Bowl From Assembled Feeder

Remove the stainless-steel bowl and food tray from the base of the feeder by lifting the base of the feeder.

Unclip Latches And Remove Lid From Assembled

Empty the hopper. Pour any remaining food into a temporary storage container.

Make sure you are using the correct size dry kibble.

  • We recommend ¼ - inch to ½ - inch (5mm-12mm) diameter.
  • Do not use canned, moist, semi-moist, or wet food.

Remove Hopper, No Lid

Remove the food hopper from the feeder base.

Unlock The Chute Cover

Remove the chute cover with a slight counterclockwise twist.

Clean the components thoroughly.

  • Wash the stainless-steel bowl by hand or in your dishwasher.
  • Hand-wash the hopper lid, food hopper, chute cover and food tray in warm soapy water. These components are plastic and not dishwasher safe. They will melt and warp.
  • Wipe the feeder base with a non-abrasive cloth to prevent scratching.
  • Allow all components to dry thoroughly before reassembling or adding food to the feeder. Reassembling and adding food to the feeder while wet or damp will cause the dry food particles to stick to the inner workings of the feeder and can jam. This also traps moisture and allows mold growth.

Important: The feeder base contains electronic components and is not waterproof. Do not rinse the feeder base, submerge it in water or spray it with cleaning solutions.

Reassemble and fill the feeder.

Plug the feeder back into the wall outlet.

  • If the error persists, replace the feeder per our warranty and replacement policy.
