to your new Drinkwell® Butterfly Pet Fountain
Keep in Mind
The acclimation time may vary with each pet.
The sound of falling water triggers instinctual behavior to drink more.
The circulating water prevents mineral build up.
The filtration system forces water through a carbon filter that removes particles, bad tastes and odors.
The fountain will need to be cleaned before first use.
Preparation: Materials

Clean the Fountain
Clean the fountain once a month. Multi-pet households may need to clean every two weeks.
Clean the pump and change the filter when cleaning the fountain.
Clean all parts of the fountain using soap, warm water and a small brush before first use.
Disassemble the Pump
Note: Place the pump parts in a safe place to avoid dropping them down the drain.
Use a tool with a small, flat edge to remove the blue faceplate on the end opposite of the cord.
Pull up on the small lip to remove the blue stator.
Remove the impeller by pulling up from underneath the white disk.
Note: The impeller is held in place by a magnet. This may give some resistance when trying to remove.
Reassemble the Pump
Once clean, place the impeller, stator and faceplate back onto the base to reassemble the pump.
Rinse the Filters
Note: The carbon is made from coconut shells and is safe for your pet.
Rinse the carbon filter under warm water for 30 seconds before use. Loose black particles will rinse out from the filter and can be seen in the bowl if the filter is not rinsed thoroughly.
Rinse the foam filter under warm water for 30 seconds before use. This filter will remove hair and other small particles. Replace if damage is noticed.
Reassemble the Fountain
Thread the pump cord through the stem on the bowl. Run the cord through the notch on the bottom of the bowl.
Place the pump in the foam filter.
Place the foam filter and pump on top of the square in the bowl of the fountain. Press down to adhere the suction cups on the pump to the bowl.
Place the rubber cap on top of the stem and press firmly to insert. Pull the cord snug.
Align the carbon filter with the filter housing and insert. A snap will be heard.
Insert the bottom of the filter housing into the circular hole on the pump.
Fill the bowl with water until it reaches the MAX fill line.
Attach the upper tray to the bowl by aligning the locking tabs and the filter housing and pressing down firmly. The water outlet will be positioned at the back.
Attach the butterfly topper. Align with the hole on the top of the tower and press down.
Note: The butterfly topper is optional. The fountain will provide a bubbling flow without it.
Connect the pump cord to the power adapter and plug it into a standard electrical outlet.
Acclimate Your Pet
If your pet is hesitant, try the tips below to help your pet get accustomed to their new fountain.
Don’t plug in the fountain for the first few days. Your pet may be intimidated by the running water.
Add a small amount of broth to the water to help attract your pet to the fountain.
