Is the PetSafe® ScoopFree® Natural Litter Safe

PetSafe® ScoopFree® Natural Litter is a non-toxic, non-clumping, cat litter that is made in the United States of America specifically for use in the PetSafe® ScoopFree® Automatic Litter Pan Systems. Unused portions of our natural litter are biodegradable.

Is PetSafe® Natural Litter Safe?

The short answer is "yes."

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers our Natural Litter safe for humans and animals.

Pregnant women, babies, small children, and immune-deficient individuals should avoid contact with cat litter waste. Cat’s waste may contain toxoplasmosis bacteria that can be harmful to these individuals.

What is PetSafe® ScoopFree® Natural Litter Made From?

The natural litter is made from algae that has been fossilized into porous rock. It is gathered in above-ground deposits and broken down into our patented pebbles – exclusive to PetSafe® Natural litter. The scientific name for the base material in PetSafe® Natural Litter is Diatomaceous Earth (DE). Aside from being used as a natural and non-toxic pesticide, Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is also used in other products, including skin care, toothpaste, foods, beverages, medicines, rubber goods, paints and water filters and feed.

The Food & Drug Administration lists diatomaceous earth as "Generally Recognized as Safe."

What Do I Do if My Pet Ingests the PetSafe® ScoopFree® Natural Litter?

Our litter is an organic product, mined from naturally occurring minerals. It is non-toxic and perfectly safe for human and animal consumption, although we advise that you discourage your pet from doing so if they actively try to eat litter. If your pet does ingest some of the litter, we recommend making sure that they stay hydrated as this material is designed to absorb moisture.
