A Few Things to Keep In Mind:

Requires four alkaline D-size batteries (not included).

You may create a wired barrier by purchasing the 150 feet spool of wire.

Refrain from having your pet wear the collar longer than 12 hours to avoid skin irritation.

The pet barrier is compatible with other Pawz Away® pet barriers and the YardMax® Collar, but the Pawz Away® collar is not compatible with the YardMax In-Ground Fence™.

Step 1: Power

Base Unit Batteries

Make sure to have four D-size batteries to power on the base unit.

Loosen the screws on the bottom of the base unit using a Phillips Head Screwdriver.

Insert four alkaline D-size batteries.

Screw the battery door back onto the base unit.

Collar Batteries

Use the battery key on the test light tool to turn the battery cap to the lock position, then remove the cap.

Insert two CR-2032 batteries into the battery cap, with the + side going into the cap.

Place the battery cap into the collar, then use the test light tool to turn it to the | position.

Step 2: Set Up Your System

Wireless Option

Base Unit Location:

Identify the area for your pet to avoid.

Place the base unit in the center of the desired barrier area.

Note: Environmental factors, such as metal sheds or cars, may effect the fence signal.

Range

Now that you have determined the base unit location, follow these instructions to find the right barrier size to ensure that the area is covered.

Open the lid on top of the base unit to expose the display screen and range buttons.

Press the [up] button to turn on the base unit. The screen will display a black line indicating that the unit is set to the lowest range.

Use the up and down buttons to set the desired range. Each additional black line indicates two feet of diameter. The barrier area can be up to 16 feet in diameter or 8 feet from the base unit.

Test the System

Hold the collar probes against the wire on the test light tool.

Position the collar under the tool and at the height of your pet.

Walk toward the barrier until the collar beeps and the test light tool flashes.

Check multiple angles around the area to ensure full coverage.

Important: Hold the collar to match the height of your tallest pet.

Wired Option

A Few Things to Keep In Mind:

We recommend calling to have utility lines marked prior to installation to avoid damage to existing lines around your home. Visit http://call811.com to find contact information for your state about who can mark the utility lines at your home.

Planning out the fence prior to setting it up will help make the install process easier.

Use rounded corners to avoid creating gaps in the boundary.

Environmental factors, such as metal sheds or cars, may effect the fence signal.

Layout Ideas

Here are a couple layout examples to help plan the barrier area.

Lay Out Your System

Follow these instructions to lay out the wire to ensure full coverage.

Place the base unit on the edge of the desired barrier area.

Run wire around the area that your pet will avoid.

Remove the battery door using a Phillips Head Screwdriver, then take the batteries out of the base unit.

Turn the inside switch to External for the signal to be sent through the wire.

Strip 1/4 inch of the insulation on both ends of the wire.

Use pliers to bend each end at a 90 degree angle.

Loosen the screws on the side of the battery compartment.

Place one end of the wire between the screw and plastic edge, then tighten the screw to hold in place. Repeat with the other end of the wire and the other screw. Do not let the bare wire touch each other.

Reinsert the batteries.

Bend the wire carefully to fit the groove of the battery door, then screw the battery door back onto the base unit.

Open the lid on top of the base unit to expose the display screen and range buttons.

Press the up button to turn on the base unit. The screen will display a black line indicating that the unit is set to the lowest range.

Use the up button to set the range to at least three feet (three segments). The range from the wire has to be at least three feet wide to ensure the signal is strong enough to be picked up by the collar.

Use the up and down buttons to set the desired range.

Test the System

Hold the collar probes against the wire on the test light tool.

Position the collar under the tool and at the height of your pet.

Walk toward the barrier until the collar beeps and the test light tool flashes.

Check multiple angles around the area to ensure full coverage.

Important: Hold the collar to match the height of your tallest pet

Bury the Wire

After testing the system, follow the instructions below to bury the wire. We recommend burying the wire for best protection. However, if the wire is not buried, make sure to place the wire in a low traffic area.

Important: Disconnect the wire from the base unit before burying.

Dig a narrow trench 1-3 inches deep. The trench only needs to be as wide as the wire.

Place the wire loosely into the trench to allow the wire to expand with temperature changes.

Note: A paint stick can be used to press the wire into a narrow trench.

Important: If the ground is rough or rocky, consider installing wire in a protective tube, such as a garden hose or PVC pipe.

Crossing a Hard Surface

If the wire needs to cross a hard surface, such as a driveway or sidewalk, follow the instructions below.

If there is an existing expansion joint, use a blunt tool, such as a wooden paint stick, to clean debris out, then run the wire through it.

If there is no expansion joint, use a circular saw to cut a path, then run the wire through it.

Cover the path in the driveway with a waterproof compound, such as silicone caulk, to protect the wire from damage.

Alternative to Burying

The boundary wire can be run through PVC or rubber hosing underneath a gravel driveway. Do not place in metal as it will interfere with the signal.

Step 3: Fit Your Collar

Adjust Probes

Tighten the probes using the probe fastener until resistance is felt.

If your pet has long or thick fur, you may need to swap the short probes with the long probes.

Important: Periodically check the tightness of the probes to keep the collar
