How to Install the Sliding Glass Pet Door, 1 Piece

Welcome

Welcome to your new PetSafe® Sliding Glass Pet Door, 1 Piece!

Keep in Mind

Installing the pet door can take up to a day.

After installation, there are three phases of training.

Two people are recommended for installation.

Flap wear can be caused by seasonal weather changes, your pet’s routine, and duration of use.

Assemble the 96" Sliding Glass Pet Door Panel

diagramdiagram

Remove the four factory installed screws from the side of the connection bars on the bottom door section.

diagramdiagram

Align and slide the connection bars on the bottom into the top.

diagramdiagram

Place and tighten the screws into the four pre-drilled holes on the side of the top door.

Insert the Sliding Glass Pet Door Panel

diagramdiagram

Remove the cardboard inserts from the height adjuster. Insert the height adjuster into the upper door track on the sliding glass door.

diagramdiagram

Lift up and position the bottom of the patio panel into the lower door track on the interior side of the sliding glass door.

diagramdiagram

Slide the patio panel against the door jamb.

Important: The patio panel should fit flush against the door jamb without any gaps. Make sure the height adjuster is fully extended and not tilted to one side.

Attach Your Sliding Glass Pet Door

Secure the Height Adjuster

We recommend having someone hold the panel in place when drilling.

diagramdiagram

Slide the patio panel out slightly from the door jamb.

diagramdiagram

Drill through both pre-drilled holes on the height adjuster using the 7/64-inch drill bit.

diagramdiagram

Tighten two #6 1/2-inch screws into the holes using a Phillips screwdriver.

diagramdiagram

Slide the pet door panel back against the door jamb. Ensure it is flush with the wall without any gaps.

Attach to the Door Frame

Sliding doors have either an exposed or recessed frame. Determine the frame type for your sliding door, and follow along below.

Measure to Attach to an Exposed Door Frame

Measure and make the marks below on your sliding door frame. These marks will show where to drill to attach the patio door to the door frame.

diagramdiagram

Find the center of the patio panel. Use a pencil to make a mark at the top and bottom of the sliding door frame.

diagramdiagram

Measure 12 inches down from the top of the door frame and make a mark.

diagramdiagram

Measure 1 inch above the pet door frame in the patio panel and mark the door frame.

Attach to an Exposed Door Frame

We recommend having someone hold the panel in place when drilling.

diagramdiagram

Slide the patio panel to the side to prevent drilling through in the next step.

diagramdiagram

Drill holes through the 4 marks on the door frame using the 9/64-inch drill bit.

Important: Only drill deep enough to create a hole in the door frame. Hold the drill steady and straight.

diagramdiagram

Slide the patio panel back into the door jamb.

diagramdiagram

Make a mark on the patio panel through the side holes.

diagramdiagram

Slide the patio panel to the side and confirm that the mark is on the right side of the ribbed lines. If the mark is on or to the left of the ribbed lines, readjust the position of the patio panel in the door jamb and mark again.

Important: Only drill through the outer edge of the patio panel. The glass could break if drilled through the ribbed lines.

diagramdiagram

Drill into the patio panel through all of the holes in the door frame using the 7/64-inch drill bit.

diagramdiagram

Tighten four #6 1/2-inch screws into the holes using a Phillips screwdriver.

Skip the recessed door frame steps below and move forward the How to Secure the Door section of this article.

Attach to a Recessed Door Frame

diagramdiagram

Find the center of the Patio Panel at the top, and mark the sliding glass door frame with a pencil.

diagramdiagram

Mark to the left of the ribbed lines on the Patio Panel at the bottom of the door frame.

diagramdiagram

Open the sliding glass door and pull the Patio Panel away from the edge of the door frame.

The T-brackets attach to the Patio Panel at these marks.

Install T-Brackets

diagramdiagram

Hold the T-bracket on the lower sliding glass track and line it up with the mark.

diagramdiagram

Mark inside the screw holes with a pencil.

diagramdiagram

Drill through the marks using the 7/64-inch drill bit.

diagramdiagram

Line the T-bracket up with the drilled holes. Secure it using a Phillips screwdriver and two M4 x 10mm screws.

Repeat steps 1-4 to attach the T-bracket to the top of the door frame.

Attach the T-Brackets

We recommend having someone hold the panel in place when drilling.

diagramdiagram

Slide the patio panel into the door jamb, in line with the T-brackets.

diagramdiagram

Drill through the hole on the upper T-bracket using the 7/64-inch drill bit.

diagramdiagram

Attach the T-bracket using an M4 x 10mm screw.

diagramdiagram

Drill through the hole on the lower T-bracket using the 7/64-inch drill bit.

diagramdiagram

Attach the T-bracket using an M4 x 10mm screw.

Secure the Sliding Glass Pet Door

Glass Sweep

The glass sweep forms a seal with the stationary door. Close the door and ensure that the inside end of the sliding glass door is clean and dry, then follow the instructions to place the glass sweep.

diagramdiagram

Position the glass sweep along the edge of the back end of the sliding door with the ridged side touching the stationary door.

diagramdiagram

Peel the back off starting from the top and press in place while moving down the door.

diagramdiagram

Trim any excess glass sweep with scissors.

Lock for the 81" Panel

The locking latch can be placed on the lower track, sliding glass door or the stationary door.

To begin lock installation, close the sliding glass door.

diagramdiagram

Position the lock in the unlocked position and point the locking bolt toward the door frame. Leave 1/8-inch gap between the locking bolt tip and rail.

diagramdiagram

Mark the screw holes and the center of the locking bolt.

Important: Make sure that the drill marks are not in contact with glass.

diagramdiagram

Drill two pilot holes for the latch.
9/64-inch for aluminum sliding glass doors.
7/64-inch for wood or vinyl sliding glass doors.

diagramdiagram

Attach the latch with two #8 1/2-inch metal screws. Do not overtighten the screws.

Lock for the 96" Panel

The rotary lock attaches to the sliding glass door and the pet door panel.

Determine the height for your rotary lock and completely close the sliding glass door. Follow the instructions below to attach the lock directly to the door.

diagramdiagram

Align and tape the lock template on the doors with the keeper side on the sliding glass door and the latch side on the Patio Panel.

diagramdiagram

Mark the drill holes on the template, then remove from door.

diagramdiagram

Drill four 7/64-inch holes.

Important: Do not drill through the other side of the sliding glass door or Patio Panel.

diagramdiagram

Screw in four 3/4-inch screws using a flat head screwdriver. Do not overtighten.
