I Received a Notification That Something Might Be Wrong With My SmartDoor™ Connected Pet Door

Inspect the weather stripping and rain diverters (nylon fins) at the sides of the pet door flap. If these are loose or damaged, they may be preventing the flap from closing fully. If the weather stripping and/or rain diverters:

  • Are intact and in place, proceed to the next step.
  • Are intact but have slipped out of position, use a small Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screws at the side of the flap slightly, then move the weather stripping and/or rain diverters back into position and retighten the screws.
  • Are damaged, you will need to order and install a replacement flap.

Note: As a temporary solution, you can remove the damaged diverters and/or weather stripping to be able to lock the pet door until the replacement flap arrives. This is not a permanent solution and continued use without either component may result in permanent water damage to the pet door.

Visually inspect the latches at the bottom of the pet door frame, just under the flap. Do you see any dirt or debris that may be interfering with the operation of the latches?

  • If no, proceed to the next step.
  • If yes, use a can of compressed air, a soft-bristled brush, or an alcohol wipe to clear the obstruction.

Important: Do not use liquid or spray cleaners to clean the latches, as these could introduce moisture into the electronic locking mechanism.

After cleaning the latches, use the app to lock and unlock the pet door a few times, watching for the “Attention!” notification. If the notification:

  • Does not reappear, the issue is resolved.
  • Reappears, proceed to the next step.

Reboot the pet door to recalibrate the flap:

  1. Open the battery compartment.
  2. Press and release the Wi-Fi connect button. The blue Wi-Fi indicator will turn off for a few moments and you may hear a few quiet clicking sounds. Wait until the Wi-Fi indicator turns on again and glows solid blue.

If you press the Wi-Fi connect button for too long (more than 20 seconds), your Wi-Fi credentials will be erased and you will need to reconnect the pet door to the app.
  3. Once the Wi-Fi indicator glows solid blue, use the app to lock and unlock the pet door a few times, watching for the “Attention!” notification. If the notification:
  • Does not reappear, the pet door has recalibrated successfully, and the issue is resolved.
  • Reappears, please contact Customer Care for further assistance.
