How to Train Your Dog to Use the PetSafe® Happy Ride® Side Door Pet Steps
Training your pet to use the steps appropriately will be needed. The amount of training required will be dependent on the pet. We recommend a few short training sessions each day. Each pet is different and will become comfortable in their own time. Patience is key.
Set up the stairs. Click HERE if you would like assistance with set up.
With your pet on-leash, allow the pet to approach the steps on his own. When he touches the steps, reward him with treats and praise. Continue until your pet chooses to walk up the steps.
Running and jumping on the steps are normal behaviors at first. Continue to train until these behaviors are corrected.
Once your pet is sitting comfortably, call him to walk down the steps. Reward him with treats and praise once he reaches the bottom of the stairs.
When holding the leash, ensure enough slack is taken up so the pet does not trip or become tangled.
