How To Train My Dog on the PetSafe® GPS Customizable Dog Fence: Phase 4
Important Information
- Proper dog training is essential to the success of the collar.
- If the dog shows signs of stress, slow down the training schedule, add additional training days, or increase the amount of playtime with the pet in the pet area. Common stress signals include the dog pulling on the leash toward the house, ears tucked or pulled back, tail down or tucked between the legs, body lowered, nervous/frantic movement or stiffening of the dog’s body, lip-licking or yawning.
Avoid leaving the collar on the pet for more than 12 hours per day to prevent skin irritation. If redness or irritation is observed, discontinue use of the product until the skin no longer appears to be irritated.
Always remove the collar from the dog before entering the home or a vehicle to prevent unwanted collar corrections.
Phase 4 Days 9-30
Walk around the yard with the dog off-leash to establish comfort. Play with the dog in the boundary for the first few sessions.
- Keep a leash nearby for easy access.
If the dog leaves the boundary area, remove the fence collar and walk the dog back into the pet area.
- Revisit the previous training phase for added training sessions.
- If the dog does not try to leave the boundary, allow them to explore. Continue watching the dog. If they escape, remove the fence collar and lead them back into the pet area.
Start these sessions at about 15 minutes and gradually work up to an hour or more.
Once your dog consistently stays within the boundary, your training is complete!
After a Training Session
- Spend at least five minutes of playtime within the boundary at the end of each training session.
- Remove the training collar after each session.
