How to Measure Your Dog to Determine Which Size Easy Walk® Harness is Needed

What You Need to Know

Measuring your dog with a soft measuring tape is the most accurate way to determine harness size.

  • A snug fit is important. When measuring your dog, try to keep the measuring tape tight and as close to skin as possible. If your dog has fluffy fur, you may need to brush it out of the way.
  • If you don’t have a fabric tape measure at home, use a leash and follow the instructions like you would for the soft tape measure. Then use a standard measuring tape to measure the length of leash that fit around your dog.

How to Measure Your Dog for a Harness

Measure the Chest

Measure across your dog’s chest, with the measuring tape tight to his body. Start about 1 inch behind his front leg and measure across the chest and ending about 1 inch behind the other front leg.

Your dog should be standing comfortably while getting measured.

Measure the Girth

Next, find the girth measurement by wrapping the measuring tape around the deepest part of your dog’s rib cage behind his front legs.

Find the Best Size

Compare these two measurements to the sizing chart. Choose the size that best includes both measurements. If your dog is between two sizes, choose the larger size or the size in which the girth measurement best matches.
