How To Find My Dog’s Recognition Level for the PetSafe® Basic Dog Trainer

What is the Recognition Level?

The recognition level is the lowest static stimulation level that your dog begins to notice. Always start at the lowest level of stimulation and work your way up. You are looking for a reaction from your dog, such as a head nod or an ear twitch. Your dog should not vocalize or panic when receiving a stimulation. If this happens, the stimulation is too high, and you need to go back to the previous level.

If your pet shows no reaction, repeat this static stimulation level several times before moving up to level 2.

Continue moving up through the static stimulation levels until your pet reliably responds.

Important: Please note that during instances of high or extreme distraction, higher levels of stimulation may be required to get your dog’s attention.

If your pet shows no response at level 15, check the collar fit on your dog. Then restart at level 0. Visit How To Fit My PetSafe® Basic Dog Trainer. If you still have no response, test the trainer for functionality. Visit How To Test My PetSafe® Basic Dog Trainer.
