How To Expand My PetSafe® Brand Stay and Play® Compact Wireless Fence System

Important Information

  • The base unit sends out a circular signal to create the wireless fence. The base unit will always be the center of the pet area.
  • One Stay and Play® Compact base unit can cover up to 3/4 of an acre. The maximum distance from the base unit to the boundary is 105 feet.
  • Up to three base units can be combined to accommodate larger or more narrow yards. To purchase an additional base unit, visit Petsafe.com.

Set up the first base unit. For detailed instructions, visit How To Set Up My PetSafe® Brand Stay & Play® Compact Wireless Fence System. Ensure your base units are located in an appropriate area that is:

  • A climate-controlled environment. Locations without climate control are problematic as changes in temperatures create condensation, even if the unit is placed in a water-tight container.
  • Uncovered and has proper airflow and ventilation to prevent overheating.
  • Placed at least 2 but no more than 4 feet above the floor, on the ground level of your home.
  • All metal objects are at least 3 feet away from the base unit. (ex. refrigerator, toolbox, circuit breaker box, furnace, or A/C unit). Be sure to consider any metal on the other side of the wall.

Please note that placing your base unit in a building with a metal siding or a metal roof may reduce the maximum range of your system.

Find the edge of the pet area and mark it. For more help finding the pet area/boundary, visit How To Test My PetSafe® Brand Stay & Play® Compact Wireless Fence Collar for Correction.

Turn the first unit off. Please note that when turning the unit off, the collar may activate as it loses signal.

Repeat with the second base unit. Ensure your base unit is located in an appropriate area following the same guidelines as the first unit.

Find the edge of the 2nd unit’s pet area and mark it. There should be an overlap of at least 30 feet between the two boundaries.

If the signals do not overlap at least 30 feet, turn the dial up on one or both units. If both base units are set to the maximum distance, move the units closer together.

This ensures that the collar does not lose signal. If they do not overlap, the collar may activate in places it should not.

Make sure to power both units back on to resume normal operation. Please note that you will need to train your pet to the new boundary. For more information, visit How To Train My Pet to the PetSafe® Stay & Play® Compact Wireless Fence Phase 1: Boundary Awareness.
