How to Clean Your ScoopFree® Litter Box

Regular monthly cleaning can reduce odor and extend the life of your litter box and litter trays.

Avoid using soaps, cleaners or chemicals that have strong odor or contain scents that are cat repellant, like citrus, lavender, peppermint, etc.

If your litter box has a privacy cover, remove and wash with unscented mild soap and warm water. Lift the litter box frame from the tray and dispose of the old one.

Unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet and disconnect from the litter box.

Remove waste trap coverRemove waste trap cover

Remove the waste trap cover by rotating it forward, then lift it straight up until it pops out of the notches on the litter box base.

Do not pull up one side at a time. Pulling one side up first can result in the pegs at the base of the waste trap cover getting caught in the notches on the litter box frame and breaking off.

Clean the litter boxClean the litter box

Clean the detection sensors on the interior sides of the litter box even if they appear clean. Waste can cause a film on the sensors and interfere with their detection abilities. Rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab work best for this.

Wipe all surfaces on the litter box frame with a cloth or sponge using mild soap and water. Wipe the rake with a sponge or soft brush.

DO NOT use any soaps or cleaners that would leave residue on the sensors. DO NOT use bleach or chemicals to clean as they can act as a repellent to your cat.

Thoroughly dry all parts before reassembling the litter box. Replace the waste trap cover and install a fresh litter tray.
