How to Clean the Current Pet Fountain
The fountain should be cleaned at least once a month to avoid mineral buildup and to ensure clean drinking water. It is recommended to clean the pump and change the filter when cleaning the fountain.
Note: Multi-pet households may need to clean every two weeks.
Disassemble the Fountain
Unplug the pump from the wall adaptor and empty the fountain.
Remove the lid by pulling up on the tab in the back.
Remove the carbon filter and discard.
Release the cord from the channel on the bottom of the bowl. Pull the cord up through the opening in the middle of the bowl.
Remove the pump and pump plate by pulling up gently.
Note: The pump is secured to the bowl with suction cups. To release, carefully slide a fingernail underneath each suction cup.
Remove the pump plate from the pump. Set the pump aside.
Clean the fountain and removed parts, excluding the pump, with unscented soap and warm water.
The bowl, lid and pump plate are dishwasher safe on top rack only.
Note: If there is leftover residue, soak the fountain in white vinegar and warm water for 30 minutes. Wash again with soap and warm water before use.
Disassemble the Pump
Note: Place the pump parts in a safe place to avoid dropping them down the drain.
Use a tool with a small, flat edge to remove the intake plate on the end opposite of the cord.
Pull up on the small lip to remove the stator.
Remove the impeller by pulling up from underneath the white disk.
Note: The impeller is held in place by a magnet. This may give some resistance when trying to remove.
Clean all parts of the pump using soap and warm water with a small brush. Completely rinse the pump, then reassemble.
If hard water build up occurs, soak pump in equal parts vinegar and warm water for 15 minutes, then scrub.
Reassemble the Pump
Place the impeller, stator and faceplate back onto the base to reassemble the pump.
Rinse the Filter
Rinse the carbon filter under warm water for 30 seconds before use. Loose black particles may rinse out from the filter and could be seen in the bowl if the filter is not rinsed thoroughly.
Note: The carbon is made from coconut shells and is safe for your pet.
Reassemble the Fountain
Attach the pump plate to the pump. Make sure that the tab on the plate lines up with the edge of the pump.
Slide the plate and attached pump into the slots inside the bowl. Press down to secure.
Feed the cord through the opening in the center of the bowl.
Pull the cord snug, press into the channel on the bottom of the bowl and align with the notch.
Insert the carbon filter between the slots next to the pump. The black side of the filter will face the pump.
Place the fountain in the desired area and fill with water. Leave at least 1/4 inch between the water level and the lip of the bowl.
Align the lid and press down to secure. A snap will be heard.
Connect the pump cord to the power adaptor and plug into a standard electrical outlet.
